Hi-Store’s mezzanine solutions extend to Dixons Retail

Dixons Retail is one of the largest consumer electronics retailers in Europe and has embarked on an extensive expansion and store renewal programme.

The company operates Currys, PC World, Equanet and Electro World stores, along with many other brands across Europe including: PIXmania and Advent Computers. The Group specialise in selling consumer electronic products, audio-video equipment, PCs, small and large domestic appliances, photographic equipment,  communication products and related financial and aftersales services (e.g. extended service agreements).

The Brief

As part of their expansion plans DIXONS acquired two units on the Dysart Road Retail Park in Grantham as their current site in Grantham was too small. The two units were to be combined and to fully maximise this combined floor space and the available height, a mezzanine was planned to accommodate  the sale of white goods.Due to their extensive knowledge and experience in the retail sector, Hi-Store were contracted for the project.

Solution

Following the removal of the partitioning wall between the units, a full site survey was undertaken, from which detailed CAD drawings were produced for  the manufacture of the mezzanine. Hi- Store’s brief was to include both the sales area mezzanine, rear store stock area mezzanine, staircases and the feature stainless steel balustrades.

The mezzanine had to comply with the latest fire regulations and all vertical columns were encased in a fire resistant  material. To add to the overall aesthetics of the area, Hi-Store were requested to colour match DIXONS four corporate ‘know how’ brand colours  throughout the ground floor area. This was achieved by a special powder coating onto the column cases.

Finishing on schedule, the mezzanine took the Hi-Store project team 10 days to complete giving the store its vital extra sales area.

As a result of this project, Hi-Store competed a further mezzanine installation for DIXONS at Longton.
